Is the Atari 2600 Star Raiders keypad supported with iCode Quad Plus, specifically with use with Stella on a Windows system?

(I assume it's not, but I just want to confirm before I go an alternate route to hack my keypad to make it work with the game.)

2600 keypad/touch pad is not supported at this time. I do plan a firmware update this summer that will add that also.  check back in about 2 weeks or so.

Fantastic! I guess I'll hold off on hacking my keypad, then. Thank you!

@ali Like the person that started this thread, I'm curious if there has been an update to allow for the keypad controller to operate with Stella and the iCode Duo Plus adapter. Thanks!

Hello.  Below are the links to the beta version of the firmware that supports the keypad for the Duo Plus. Please see these instructions on how to apply the firmware.

Once you finish updating your firmware:
  • Connect your keypad controller(s) to the Duo Plus
  • Go to the main menu on the Duo Plus (Press Red and Green at the same time)
  • Go to Config menu (Press Black)
  • Press Green button several times to change "Type" by to:
    • "Keypads" if you connected 2 keypads.
    • "Keypad1", if you are connecting only 1 keypad to port 1
    • "Keypad2", if you are connecting only 1 keypad to port 2
  • Press the Yellow button twice to exit both menus
Above will make keypads to act like gamepad buttons 21 through 32.

Also note that it's generally a good idea to turn off keyboard emulation, especially if you use two keypads. From the main menu, press Black, then press Red to toggle the keyboard on and off.  This is because if you have two keypads connected, you won't know which one is typing the keys.  Only way to know which keypad is sending the commands is to look at the gamepad controller.

Also note that the keypad specific firmware, disables Coleco mode as well as some driving controller configuration options.

Let me know how your test goes. Love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

Thanks, Ali. I finally got around to trying this out.

I got the firmware to update. I was running 9.07 on the 6 button unit. Now it looks like I'm running 9.10.

Unfortunately, it appears that the firmware update has (sort of) bricked my unit. After the loading screen disappears, I notice that none of the buttons work on the unit. When I hold down the green and red buttons, I get nothing. Actually, none of the buttons appear to do anything.

Also, I believe the display is upside down from what it was when I was running 9.07.

I could be missing something, but the behavior is definitely different than it was just a few moments ago when I was running the previous firmware.

Any suggestions on what to try?

(It might be too strong of a word to say it's "bricked" my unit -- it recognizes when I have a joystick plugged in and shows which directions I am moving or if I am pressing the fire button. I just can't figure out how to get to any menus, as the buttons on the unit don't appear to do anything now.)
