The newest firmware for every model, with its release notes, is on the Downloads page.

With iCodeHub (recommended)

  1. Plug the device into USB and open hub.icode.com in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Click Connect and choose your device.
  3. iCodeHub shows when an update is available, with its release notes — follow the on-screen steps. The device restarts by itself.

Settings and presets are reset by a firmware update. Save them to your iCodeHub Vault first and reload them afterward. Your games and arcade high scores are kept.

Quad with older firmware: if your game drive is called QUAD ROMS, copy your games off it before updating — the new firmware gives the Quad a larger drive, called ARCADE ROMS, that starts empty. Arcade high scores start fresh.

Quad CX-W: after an update, the Quad also updates its wireless module the first time it starts. Leave it powered until it finishes.

Install the firmware file yourself

  1. Download the firmware file (.uf2) for your device from its Downloads page.
  2. Put the device into firmware-update mode (below). A drive called RP2350 appears on your computer.
  3. Copy the .uf2 file onto the RP2350 drive. The device installs it and restarts by itself — the drive disappears when it’s done, which is normal.

Download the correct file for your device. Firmware for another model can stop your device from working. The Quad CX and Quad CX-W have different files — the CX-W’s ends in W.

If the device won’t go into update mode

Use the small pin hole on top of the device, near and above the thumbstick. Unplug the device. With a straightened paper clip, gently press and hold the button inside the hole while you plug the device into your computer, and let go when the RP2350 drive appears. Then copy the .uf2 file onto the drive.
